Magic is something we all have inside us. Whether we pray, wish, bless or create a focused thought. Magic comes from with us in the form of intent and in my earlier and very brief post called “What is Magic?” I talk about this quickly.

However, there are the 3 laws that magic can use and we can we harness them to create a stronger connection.

The Law Of Attraction

The law of attraction, often called LoA, is the process of what you think will happen, will happen. Ever heard the saying that ‘if you want something badly enough you’ll get it?’, this is law of attraction. A life coach or positive psychologist would call this positive thinking or a positive mental attitude (PMA), so thinking positively will encourage positive things to happen to you. However, a witch merely calls it… intent.

In order for any spell (positive or negative) the spellcaster has to be completely focused on the end goal. Pushing all their intent into what they are doing with the spell and what they want to happen as a result. You get out what you put in or in other words, you reap what you sow.

The Law Of Contagion

The law of contagion is a magical or metaphysical link between people, animals or objects. In vodou, New Orleans voodoo, hoodoo and traditional witchcraft you will hear the term “personal effects” or “personal concerns” used often. Personal effects or concerns are objects or DNA attached to a certain person used during a spell to connect the spellcaster to the target. These are incredibly effective because having something from a person or that the person has touched or even worn/used has a direct link to them. Witches often use finger and toe nails, hair, blood and urine to create a strong bond but also things like pieces of clothing, a piece of their handwriting, photos, a pen they have used or other objects. You can also collect dirt from the target’s footsteps outside and even their name and date of birth written down can be enough to create a bond.

Statues, figurines, symbols and idols are used in the same way in churches, mosques, temples and other sacred sites across the world’s religions as a representational item. These items create a connection and a focus point whether that be to use in a prayer or blessing or as a connection to them individually when they are being venerated.

People who have ‘lucky socks’ or a ‘lucky jumper’ for example are also working with the law of contagion. They have associated and connected the feeling of good luck with an object.

and then there is the last one…

The Doctrine Of Signatures

Paracelsus, born in the 15th century, was one of the first chemists to create a link between chemistry and medicine and thanks to him, the idea that the physical appearance of an object or item indicates the curative or useful effect to the resembled part of the body was developed. This idea was formed into the doctrine of signatures and is still used by both herbalists and magical folk today. In simple terms, the doctrine of signatures is, if something in nature looks like something else, it will probably aid/fix/heal/help or cure the ‘something else’. A prime example of this is the humble walnut.

The walnut, when out of it’s shell, resembles a brain and therefore is used and is scientifically proven to help with brain cognitive improvement.

Healthline states “In a 10-month study of Alzheimer’s disease, mice fed 6–9% of their calories as walnuts (equal to 1–1.5 ounces or 28–45 grams daily in people) had significant improvements in learning skills, memory and anxiety reduction, compared to a walnut-free control group”

And the US National Library of Medicine states “Recent animal and human studies from our and other groups have suggested that long-term dietary supplementation with walnuts may reduce the risk or delay the onset/progression of MCI and AD.”

Although herbalists and dieticians around the world have also been saying this for years!

So when casting a spell for anything to do with the brain or mind, such as a confusion spell, to help heal a mental breakdown, to cause calmness of the mind for example, a walnut can be used to create a connection therefore both an object of the doctrine of signatures and then becoming an object of law of the law of contagion.

When using any of these 3 laws within magic it is important that you know as much about your target (the person you are casting the spell on) and the situation as possible so you can create the maximum intent and focus.

Yours,

Share the magic...
